Biography
Dr. Cilingiroglu received his medical degree Cum Laude from the Hacettepe University, Faculty of Medicine in Turkey. He completed his residency in internal medicine at The Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA.
He was then awarded the prestigious fellowship by The Baylor College of Medicine and DeBakey Heart Center in Cardiovascular Diseases as American Heart Association Bugher Fellow in Houston, TX. He completed his Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, TX. He also completed a Structural Heart Disease fellowship at The NorthShore University under the mentorship of World-renowned Dr. Ted Feldman in Evanston, IL.
Dr. Cilingiroglu is Professor of Medicine at several Universities in the USA as well as abroad. In addition to being the Director of Structural Heart Interventions, he also served as the Director of Interventional Research at The University of Maryland Medical Center. He was Associate Professor of Medicine at The University of Pittsburgh Heart and Vascular Institute in Pittsburgh, PA.
Dr. Cilingiroglu has several publications in prestigious journals as well as book chapters and has received several prestigious awards for his important contributions to the field of Cardiovascular Medicine. He has authored 14 research articles/books.
He is also one of the inventors of the intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology for cardiovascular imaging. He is on the editorial board of several scientific peer reviewed journals.
He has been very active also in academic medicine with particular emphasis on teaching, education and research.
Dr. Cilingiroglu has also successfully secured several investigator initiated studies with regard to cardiovascular research. He is also the early career development working group chair for structural heart disease at the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.
