Biography

Coming from an established family that embraced their Ottoman heritage, Vedat Milor grew up with his grandparents and learned to appreciate gastronomy at a very young age.

He studied Economy at Bosphorus University in Istanbul and graduated with high honors. He continued his studies at the London School of Economics before his PhD study in UC Berkeley in California, USA.

His obsession with exquisite products, gourmet restaurants, and wine-tasting developed in tandem during his graduate studies at U.C. Berkeley.

Next he was rewarded a nine months fellowship in France intended for Ph.D. research. He spent a considerable amount of time discovering the Michelin starred restaurants, dining at the best restaurant of the time in the 1980s.

In 2004, while working at Georgia Tech as an associate professor, Mikael Jonsson and Milor started Gastroville and laid out criteria for restaurant evaluations. They parted ways in 2009 when Jonsson decided to devote himself to Hedone in London. Milor launched Gastromondiale and transferred his articles to this new blog. Gastromondiale is now on its way of becoming truly “mondiale” (global) through the addition of three more editors and several contributors.
